VELVET DUSK
by Emilie Bouge
“This above all: to thine own self be true, / And it must follow, as the night the day, / Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
- William Shakespeare, “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”
Deeply brooding VELVET DUSK is a scent of irresistible intrigue. At first, it surprises with crisp, fruity top notes, but then follows with smoky heart and woody base notes that linger like the long shadows on fictional Elsinore in “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.” In this classic play by William Shakespeare, the titular Prince feigns madness to investigate and later avenge his father’s murder, but his plot, while successful, brings ruin to the whole royal family.

“The inspiration for VELVET DUSK comes from the deep themes of ‘The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.’ To capture the story, I chose to combine bright elements of grapefruit and bergamot with dark woods such as black cedarwood. I wanted the perfume to be on the edge, between light and darkness, between the fragility of delicate violet leaves and soft musk, and the strength of nutmeg and tobacco. The wholeness... VELVET DUSK expresses the last lights–beautiful, strong, and fragile. ‘To be or not to be,’ or to be everything and with elegance.”
